COLLIN COUNTY, TX — After sustained advocacy from Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) since August 2023, the Collin County Election Commission has scheduled a July 2025 oversight meeting, ending a nine-year gap since its last session in 2015. This marks a significant step toward increased election transparency and public engagement.
During the January 16, 2025, Election Commission meeting, commissioners unanimously selected a new Election Administrator and announced plans for the July 2025 meeting. This decision follows CDF’s efforts to establish regular oversight meetings, providing citizens greater involvement in election processes.
“Regular meetings would serve multiple vital purposes,” stated Debbie Lindstrom, Texas Election Director for CDF, during her public testimony. “They allow public input, provide important updates from election officials, celebrate best practices, and create opportunities for improving election processes collaboratively.” See Debbie’s full comment here.
In August 2023, CDF formally proposed regular commission meetings, emphasizing that the Secretary of State’s website outlines the Election Commission’s duties but lacks a set schedule for oversight. Lindstrom cited Article 6, Section 4 of the Texas Constitution: “All elections are by the people,” and noted that citizen offers to volunteer in elections had previously been declined.
CDF continues to advocate for bi-annual meetings to ensure proper oversight of the Election Administrator and formal opportunities for public input.
