WASHINGTON, D.C. - Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) proudly applauds the House of Representatives for passing H.J. Res 165, and Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) for her courageous leadership in bringing this resolution forward. This significant legislative victory is a crucial first step in preserving the original intent of Title IX and protecting the rights of women and girls across the nation. The United States Senate has a companion disapproval resolution under S.J.Res.96. This means any United States Senator can then make a nondebatable motion to consider H.J. Res 165 for passage with a majority vote. President Biden will then either sign or veto the joint resolution.
Since its inception, CDF has been at the forefront of the battle against the Biden Administration's overreach concerning Title IX. Prior to H.J. Res 165 being filed, CDF initiated a nationwide call to action, urging the public to contact their elected representatives to support a Congressional Review Act Joint Resolution of Disapproval. This grassroots mobilization effort saw tremendous support, with citizens from Texas, Florida, and Georgia leading the charge. The collective voices of concerned Americans played a significant role of lawmakers understanding the concerns of the Title IX rewrite and securing the passage of H.J. Res. 165.
Discussing these efforts in a recent interview with CDF, Chief Deputy Whip and Congressman Guy Reschenthaler said, “You guys (CDF) are the tip of the spear in terms of these legal battles. We need you engaged in court so we can fight here on Capitol Hill.”
Given the likelihood of a veto by President Biden, CDF believes the matter is appropriate for a Federal Court to ensure the Congressional intent of Title IX is restored and continues to represent the interests of parents and citizens with a recently filed an amicus brief in the Northern District of Texas calling for a nationwide injunction.
Jonathan Hullihan, CDF General Counsel, emphasized the importance of passage of H.J. Res. 165: "The Biden Administration’s attempt to unilaterally alter the definition of biological sex without congressional approval is a clear violation of the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution. The passage of H.J. Res. 165 reaffirms the legislative authority of Congress and protects the safety, privacy, and rights of women and girls in educational settings."
CDF urges the public to remain vigilant and continue to support efforts that defend the Constitution and the principles of Title IX. Citizens are encouraged to visit CDF's website to find contact information for their elected representatives and make their voices heard in defense of equal opportunity and legislative integrity.
