Citizens Defending Freedom Sees Record Turnout at Collin County Commissioners Court Budget Meeting

Updated: Oct 2

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas - Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) witnessed an unprecedented turnout at the Collin County Commissioners Court budget meeting on August 19, 2024. Over 125 citizens filled the room, with overflow extending into the hallways. Nearly everyone in attendance advocated for the implementation of hand-marked paper ballots in the upcoming November election.

Key Highlights:

  • 50 citizens spoke in favor of hand-marked paper ballots, with only one opposing view presented.

  • A petition supporting hand-marked paper ballots gathered over 375 signatures in just 72 hours leading up to the meeting.

  • County Judge Chris Hill made a motion to move to hand-marked ballots for the November 2024 election, which ultimately failed to pass with a 1-4 vote.

The meeting quickly devolved into name-calling with commissioner Cheryl Williams often rolling her eyes prompting Judge Chris Hill to say, “Your arrogance is on show for everyone.” To which Williams replied, “I think these lovely people out here are getting a good taste of yours.” Follow this link to see the discussion for yourself. This was one of many heated exchanges during the meeting.

Debbie Lindstrom, CDF Election Integrity Lead, said, "The overwhelming support we saw at this meeting demonstrates the community's strong desire for transparency and trust in our electoral process."

CDF has been advocating for election reforms at the Commissioners Court for over two years, including the presentation of a document outlining 17 Election Improvements last August.

"Every vote is priceless," said Tara Schulte, Executive Director of CDF-Collin. "We will continue to advocate for measures that ensure the integrity and transparency of our elections."
