Miami-Dade School Board Rejects LGBTQ+ History Month for Third Consecutive Year

Updated: 2 days ago

MIAMI, FLORIDA – In a significant victory for parental rights and community values, the Miami-Dade School Board has once again voted to reject the proposal to recognize October 2024 as LGBTQ+ History Month. This marks the third consecutive year the board has declined the measure, following intense pressure from concerned parents and citizens.

The vote took place during the school board’s monthly meeting on September 11th, after over 6 hours of deliberation and public comments. Hundreds of Miami-Dade residents, including members of Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) and the Christian Family Coalition, spoke out against the proposal, voicing concerns over age-inappropriate materials and parental rights.

Isabella Rodriguez, Executive Director of Miami-Dade County CDF, commented on the victory: “We are proud to have played a key role in organizing the community to speak out against this agenda. Along with hundreds of Christians and concerned citizens, we worked tirelessly to gather petition signatures and ensure the voices of parents were heard.”

In the end, the board voted 5-3 to reject the proposal, with members Tere Rojas, Espino, Alonso, Blanco, and Colucci voted in opposition of the proposal. “We want to thank these board members for upholding state laws and listening to the parents and citizens of Miami-Dade,” added Rodriguez. “This decision protects the rights of parents and the minds of our children.” Citizens Defending Freedom will continue to fight for parental rights and the protection of children from inappropriate content in public schools
