KISSIMMEE, FL – Osceola County Citizens Defending Freedom has uncovered what could be potential felony charges for a Republican candidate who is running for District 35 State Representative for the Florida House of Representatives.
Ken Davenport, who is running against establishment Republican Erika Booth and grassroots Republican Scotty Moore, previously ran and lost for the same seat in 2022.
The Orange County flight attendant, who was registered as “no party affiliation” (NPA) since September 2022, switched his registration in December of 2022 to the Republican party. On August 10, 2023, Davenport qualified for his election and signed his Candidate Oath of Office, on which he swore and affirmed that he had been a registered member of the Republican party for 365 days before the beginning of qualifying. Unless Davenport has been using common core math, eight months does not equal 365 days.
It would appear that Davenport, whose campaign treasurer is William Stafford Jones - a Gainesville political consultant who was previously implicated in a 2012 election scandal, has violated Florida State Statute 104.011 which states that “a person who willfully swears or affirms falsely to any oath or affirmation…in connection with or arising out of voting or elections commits a felony of the third degree.”
“This is a potentially serious Florida elections violation,” Chris Fontenot, Executive Director for Osceola County Citizens Defending Freedom stated. “Both parties must be above reproach when it comes to the running of our state, and we must have the utmost confidence in our leaders and their ability to govern with integrity and honesty, regardless of which side of the aisle they are on.”
Osceola CDF has attempted to privately address this matter with Davenport, but he has declined to respond.
